Getting a Picture to Move

Hallie Ephron is coming out with a new book, a thriller called You’ll Never Know, Dear. In a blog post she expressed the desire to see the creepy doll on the cover open and close its eye. “I can do that,” I thought, and booted GIMP (I’m a Mac user) to make it into an animated GIF.

dollAnd so I did, in about an hour. It was fun. But when I uploaded it to Facebook, the picture of the book cover lay there like a lox. Facebook had converted my sprightly animated GIF to a JPEG.

I don’t know why they did that, or how to get around it. I shrank it down to a smaller picture, and that didn’t work, either. I’m now attempting to make it happen on WordPress. We’ll see how it goes.

Hm. Badly. Evidently WordPress won’t animate GIFs either, at least not this GIF. I will look into this further when I get the time.
